What is herpes?

Herpes (herpes infection) - a viral disease of humans, exhibits different symptoms as skin and mucous membranes, central nervous system and other organs.

Causes of Herpes

Herpes is caused by a DNA virus of herpes simplex (Simplexvirus), member of the family Herpesviridae. The causative agent of herpes in the environment persists for days and resistant to heat, but it can tolerate freezing.

The disease is transmitted by droplet infection, by direct contact and sexually and from mother to child. The source of infection is infected with herpes any person, especially during the clinical manifestations of the disease.

Getting on the skin or mucosa, herpes virus multiplies within the cells, and then introduced into the next nerve fibers, where life is saved. In the case of low immunity and hypothermia, skin injury and exposure to ultraviolet radiation, the virus becomes active, along nerve fibers reaches the skin and mucous membranes, where he actively multiply and cause damage. In some cases, herpes simplex virus causes damage to other organs and tissues (eyes and central nervous system, and reproductive organs). Infection with herpes simplex virus population is very high, and according to some reports in adulthood approaches the absolute.

Signs and symptoms of herpes

The incubation period during which the disease does not manifest itself, ranging from 2 to 12 days. Clinical manifestations of herpes are very diverse and are herpetic lesions of the skin and mucous membranes of the face, upper respiratory tract and oral cavity, eyes, genital and internal organs, central nervous system, etc.

Herpetic skin lesions manifested rash around the mouth, lips and nose wings. Rash is a closely spaced small blisters filled with fluid, which then becomes cloudy. Over time, the bubbles are opened to form erosion or dry out and become brown. At the site there is a burning rash, fever and itchy skin. In the case of a massive rubbing the affected area, the rash may spread to large areas of the face, hands and body. There is a rise in body temperature and general weakness, fatigue, there is itching, burning and pain at the site of the rash. Herpes oral mucosa causes stomatitis, manifested the characteristic appearance of bubbles on the cheeks, palate and gums. Notes burning and tingling at the site of injury, fever, weakness, and fatigue.

Genital herpes (genital) in women is manifested by fever, malaise and muscle pain, impaired urination and pain in the lower abdomen, increased morbidity and inguinal lymph nodes. There is a rash on the external genitals. In men, herpes occurs in the form of rash on the penis with the appearance of mucous discharge from the urethra, difficulty urinating. It should be noted that this form of the disease often occurs without apparent clinical manifestations.

In the case of genital herpes in pregnant women develop herpes and the newborn. There are common skin and mucous membranes of the mouth, eyes, and central nervous system and internal organs. Ocular herpes simplex virus leads to inflammation of the cornea (keratitis) and mucosal (conjunctivitis), iris (iritis) and vascular (uveitis) eye membranes. This can cause a persistent corneal opacities up to blindness.

The defeat of the herpes simplex virus central nervous system manifests a rapid rise in body temperature and headache, vomiting, increased irritability to external influences and meningeal symptoms. The defeat of the internal organs leads to inflammation of the lungs, liver and esophagus with associated symptoms. The most common complications of herpes is a swelling of the brain and cardiovascular failure, bacterial superinfection of the skin and internal organs.
